Ok, I am very new to this site and this business. I have chosen one idea to focus on. Although, I believe the concept is so revolutionary, I can't describe it in such an open forum, but I'll use a similar concept to seek help.

I haven't even started building the site yet. I'm still trying to figure out if I can build a site such as a craigslist-type or singles-type site without using a pro web designer.

Let's say I wanted to build a singles site that was set up in its most simplistic form like craigslist. Basically, users could come to the site and post simple singles ads. They could obviously search for these ads using a search within the site or a mile radius search or topic search or whatever. It would be fairly simple, but nothing I could even come close to designing or probably managing?! Should I contact a local web marketing firms for assitance in developement? The site will only thrive if it's marketing properly and promoted heavily. It's a fairly new concept of socializing and I am thinking about building other static sites to promote the idea and lingo used. I'm thinking because I am started a new phrase for this type of "dating", I will probably be at the top of the search engines when people search for the exact phrase. Although, they wont' search unless they know the idea exists. Ok, I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm really seeking ideas on how to get this idea off the ground. What should I do first, second, third???? Is a company program like SBI which hosts, domains, markets for you of any use to me here? I wouldn't be able to use their site builder because it couldn't do dynamic site building or database driven sites. Could a marketing firm help me? How much would I be looking at(I know that's impossible to answer) but am I looking at $500 to get it going or $5000? I have money and time saved up for this concept and plan to move forward soon, but I want everything in place and a proper business and marketing plan.

I am open to any of your ideas (seriously). I'm a fresh newbie and know only as much as you can learn searching online for a few days (granted until 5am every night/morning). I haven't gotten much sleep because I'm so excited.

Please, please help!! I'm going a bit crazy here!! If you would rather message me, please do. I would love some one-to-one guidance!!!! thanks!!!

Matt

From your description, the development of a site like that should not be difficult. It seems like you only need to post data to a db and make it searchable/browsable. If your going for the craigslist look, then you don't really need much in the way of design, but a good design can help.

I'm a programmer, but if you want to get a prototype done cheaply, try using rent-a-coder(rentacoder.com) eLance, or oDesk. You may be able to find someone within your price range to get a basic version done for you.

If you need to speak in more detail privately, feel free to PM me.
