Hi!! As my title says, I am new to both this forum and to HTML in general. I'm glad I've found this forum. A little about myself...
I've developed and interest in HTML and web design after seeing some sites that supposed professionals had made, and figured I could do better. Vision is a great thing, but without tools and knowledge, it doesn't help. Hopefully, I will be able to help other members, but for now, I'll be asking for help more than anything. Thanks in advance.
The first computer I ever saw was at school, in the office. To my knowledge, it was never used. I overheard the secretary say, "They said we had to have one, not that we had to use it." The first computer I used was also at school, but this one, years later. It ran on BASIC. Somewhere along the line, I learned how to edit programs. We were working on a quiz program in algebra class that when you got an answer right, it would say, "Good Job!" or something similar. I edited the program to make it give a profanity instead of a compliment. The teacher figured out that I'd done that, and barred the class from the computer lab. She looked directly at me and said that SOMEONE wasn't using them properly. The class hated me for a while, but eventually we got priviledges back. The first computer I owned really wasn't a computer at all...it was WebTV. I thought it was the greatest thing in the world until I got a computer and realized how limited it was. Today, I'd rather surf the web than watch TV, even though the gap between the two is closing rapidly.
As far as where I am with HTML...I've read one book and have done most of the pracitces. "Creating Web Sites" by Matthew McDonald. I think I've learned a lot and have a good reference. I also have Nvu and HTML-Kit. Free programs, yes, but they seem to work OK.
Now for my first question...where should I go from here? Any other books to read or things to practice? Again, thanks in advance.
