Hi everyone!
I've known about this site for a long time since I have a little bit of knowledge with HTML, CSS and graphic design, but now I finally have a good reason to be active here. I got a job a few months ago with a local web 2.0 company here in Orlando called
Web2Corp. We have quite a few web services (we recently showcased our latest,
YouGetIt.com, at the Web2Expo in San Francisco), but my job is basically to be the affiliates manager for the
Chamber of E-Commerce, which is not your typical web host. The one thing that will seem odd about it to web developers is that there are no specifications on storage, quota, and all the other technical stuff... That's basically because we're targeting small business owners with very little or no Internet experience, and also people who are starting a business. At first, I wasn't too sure it was a great product, but now that I've had a good chance to talk to some people, I don't think it's a bad deal at all. Customers get a complete e-commerce solution with SSL so they can set up a web store and process credit cards, etc., and we work with them individually to help them with their web sites.
But anyway... My main responsibility is to acquire affiliates for our
affiliate program. I also do sales, which is what I was initially hired for. I'm not a webmaster but I work closely with our main developer.
I'm only 22 and I don't have any experience doing business or networking on the Internet, or acquiring affiliates. I've basically been told a few different things I need to do to get people to try out the affiliate program. But as long as I'm not spamming or doing anything shady, my bosses don't really care how I get affiliates, just that I do. I've put up a listing for the program on a few sites, but I doubt they're the most popular directories out there.
Well, I'm not gonna go into all the details right now and I guess the introductions forum is not the right place, but if anyone has a minute and can give me some advice, let me know what sites have worked for them, or point me in the right direction here, I'd really appreciate it.
Also, I read in the rules that it's not allowed to use my referral code in links. What about doing that in the affiliate forum? Since I'm the affiliates manager and not an actual affiliate, the only reason I have a code is to keep track of how many affiliates sign up through my links - they're not actual sales. It's strictly for statistics. I guess an admin has to approve this for me?
Thanks... and can't wait to learn some stuff in here.
