Hi!=)

I am a rookie website maker, who learned what I know from messing around with geocities for a band project... that soon faded, and 10 years later, my current boss asks me to make a website for his business... I remembered how much I enjoyed doing this stuff, and would like to now pursue a career in this field... I just realized that I had FrontPage all this time, but would really like to learn to use Dreamweaver and Flash MX eventually... quick question...

Any Cali WDs got any tips on good schools or classes in Southern California? I really want to get into this, and I know that I could learn everything online, but I would really like to have something more impressive to say when I am asked about my experience and background... and a piece of paper that says I am certified to do this... any feedback would be great, thanks!

Welcome to Webmaster-Talk jewelyetta!!!
I, too, remember the days of Geocities for me. Indeed those were fun days, days of learning and adventure on the net.

I tried getting into designing, but I thought it was much too hard.
If you're tyring to learn, I'd highly suggest downloading Adobe PhotoShop. It's the most popular software application for a web designer.

You'll probably have to buy a cracked version since the real copies are so expensive - like $700!

OR, you can design using GIMP or Macromedia Fireworks...
Good luck designing my friend, and welcome to Webmaster-Talk!
Have a good time here.

Hi, and thanks for your reply! I just got a copy of Photoshop cs2 and dreamweaver, fireworks and flash 8... all of this is a little overwhelming to me... now i found a school that certifies you as a web designer, and teaches how to use these programs... however

i just spoke with a few people that sort of discouraged me from moving on... they said that it was hard to get jobs, and that you have to have a great and extensive portfolio, rather than any sort of certificate to get jobs...

how is getting into the business for anyone else??? PLEASE, any feedback is so much going to be appreciated!

Wow it is NOT hard to get a job as a web designer. You are bananas!
Once you get your degree in web design contact me. I can find you tons of jobs.

Actually I can probably find you a LOT of jobs without a degree, but it does help.
