Can you please enlighten me as to why? Am I overlooking something here? Just tell me why. Referrals? How will the referrals influence this contest when they aren't even going to be counted for another five days? Am I missing something here? If I am please tell me what.

It'll be a combination. I'm not going to be able to win without my 300 posts, or 450 posts, for that matter.

Right, I believe it will be a combination of articles and posts, being that they are counted instantly. Referrals take five days to be counted and we are already at 300 posts and not even a full day into this yet. At this rate, all that I need are 300 more posts because I already have the articles and a blog post. Others have even more posts and points than me at this stage. I just don't see how the referrals are going to play a factor but I am anxiously awaiting the update.

Does that mean that the contest doesn't end until July 31st? Was this just recently changed or did I just overlook it from the beginning? I could have sworn the rules stated that the first five to 1,000 won. Why change it now? I don't think it is fair that such a drastic change be made. If I am wrong, please correct me but the reason why I choose to compete in this competition is because I thought I had the chance to win before the end of the weekend. I am really upset about this. I really feel like I just wasted a lot of my time and all for nothing. I don't believe it is very ethical to make such a major change in the rules after people have already vested so much time and effort into this.

The contest just opened. Competing for the entire month s well worth the prizes to be had.

I can see someone being upset if they had only showed up to make a quick buck and run, but for those that are here to win by supporting this forum launch this should not be a problem at all.

I agree Mike and I hope folks will understand. I am glad we were able to clear up the contest structure (getting rid of loopholes) so soon, only 36 hours in to things (rather than many days).

Why do you think I was posting? This is a contest and you went and changed the rules. It really is despicable that you could even consider such an unethical practice. When it started I thought to myself, sure, I can probably have a good shot at winning this and before the weekend. For this reason and this reason only I thought it might be worth my while. Right when the contest was more than halfway over you go and completely change the structure. I don't have a month to compete in this and the prize isn't worth a months time. A weekend, yes, but a month. To the contrary. How would you feel if you had been competing in this and the rules were just oblerated? It is a complete injustice and an abuse of the system.

Yes, I did read it. What kind of ethical contest changes the structure so drastically? What if Pepsi said they will pay the first person to buy 1,000 bottles of their new limited-edition soda $10,000 and then right when a couple people are at 600 they go and change the rules to say 5,000. Then when the people get to 4,600 Pepsi changes it again to 10,000. I mean seriously this a complete abuse of the contest system and there are real contest laws that you need to abide by. That is esstenially what just happened. I don't care if it was in the rules or not it is a clear abuse of the system. It is obvious that this contest is to lure people to post. Lee knows what he is doing. It is not that I wouldn't remain a member but there is no way that I would ever make 300 posts in single day.

  • This contest is not simply a posting contest
  • Rules were changed because they needed to be changed
  • Yes, Lee does know what he is doing
  • The contest isn't to get people to make posts. The idea here is to bring attention to the forum. Posting helps, but it is far from being the most important thing to the development of a site this great.

Regardless, it is still not fair to those that were competing from the beginning and more than halfway to a win. Taking a two day contest and then drastically extending it out over the period of a month seems rather extreme to me. If it wasn't, then why was it set to be the primary factor in a win in the original rule set and why were such drastic changes made at the very moment they were? I really can't believe this happened. How could you make such a drastic change in the rules? I could see adding new ways to earn points or extending to 3 or 5 days but a month when it was set to end within 48 hours. A 48 hour and a month long contest are two completely different animals all together. That is down right abuse. What is next? Are you going to make this a year long contest 29 days in?
