I think it would be very useful to be able to delete your own posts.

My opinion on that is that its not a good ideas because it can be used by people posting "****" and then just deleting it.

I don't think that would be a problem here. I've always had the option enabled on my forums and even though my forum is filled with a lot of immature morons, deleting your own posts is not a problem.

Could you give me an example where this would benefit users?

I could see problems with people deleting bids etc

Personally I've never experienced any problems with it on any of my forums.

For example. You make a thread and then you notice another thread about the exact same thing and it was made before your own thread. Then it's good to be able to delete your own.

Or you post in a thread, and later you realize that you missunderstood the thread question. Than it's very useful to be able to delete your post instead of looking like an idiot (sure you can just edit your post, but then there will be a post with not relevance to the thread).

There are many good reasons IMO.

If you could delete posts, you could manipulate threads. You can make it sounds like you said one thing, when you really said another, and so on.

Yeah sure. But if you delete your post, the mods and admins will still be able to see it.

And you could manipulate a thread by editing your post also, but then no mod or admin will be able to see what you originally said.

Ok. I guess I'm the only one who finds it useful to be able to delete your own posts.

*wishes he could delete this thread* lol

I use forums where you can delete your posts and forums where you can't and i much prefer having the option of deleting a post i made (hello waking up the morning after a night of heavy drinking and seeing you thought it would be "hilarious" to go online and post drunk).

In my experience people don't delete many posts and when they do it usually doesn't have much of an effect on a thread.

If you're worried about deleting bids you could maybe have the "no delete" thing activated in that particular sub-forum.

Saying all that though if Lee hasn't started off with users being able to delete their own posts i doubt he's gonna change it now (i may be wrong). As such if you post something you later regret i would suggest editing it to read "edit" or some such (it's what i do on the other forum where i can't delete my posts).
