Some incentives should be given to forum members with original articles posted on the forum.

Yes I agree, if we had points, and a shop, points can be rewarded.
The member can be rewarded an ad space.

But if we do this, some members might just copy an article from a site, (we might not know that) and get the reward for something they didn't deserve

I think you are already getting 2 things:
1. Banner advertisement as said by Admin
2. Backlinks

I agree, this is why I don't allow post for articles since I don't know if the articles were copied or it was originally written. However you may submit articles through the contact form. In, future I will write up an article agreement. Something like this:
