Dear Webmaster-Talk.com Members,

Today September 14th 2004 you may have received a nasty email appearing to come from webmaster-talk.com or a PM from DaveMo~

Our forum administration control panel was compromised by a disgruntled member who sent this email and PM after being BANNED for excessive SPAM. We do know who this person was, his websites and other personal information about him. We continue to gather proof and data of his wrongdoings and will be contacting our lawyer to see if we will be taking additional action against this former member.

Please be assured that we will make every effort possible to ensure that something like this never happens again.

I hope you accept our heartfelt and sincere apoligies for what has happened and continue to participate on our forums.

Thanks for the explaination...I thought it was fast to get told off...it usually takes much longer for me to get those kinds of emails.

If I can add my input...nail his sorry, no life having, girlfriend needing, needs smacked in the head arse to the wall. Just my opinion anyway.

What is odd is ... I never received any messages from this board at all. Only my normal reply notifications as usual.

Was those messages sent to the entire membership? If so ... my personal nasty-note somehow got tossed between you and I.

I don't know if that has any bearing on things -- but I thought that I would pass that on to you as an FYI.

And just to clear things up -- Dave Mo~ was not involved, correct? They just used his account.

Fortunately, we caught it pretty early. We removed all the PM's and stopped the emails in the vBulletin email queue so some (maybe even the majority) members may not have seen a thing.

This guy made a mistake by ticking off a whole bunch of unrelated people. Lucky for him, the admin hasn't posted his contact and website information.

Thanks for the reply from the owner/Admin sent promptly followed by this nastly mail., I was shocked to receive such mail by Webmaster-talk first, but your explanation mail made me feel better., Such kind of users be punished.

man I was a bit ticked off(but mostly offended) and I thought the day shift guy had somehow logged in with my sn...someone was about to have their profile deleted form the terminal he he.

Im not too sure about vbulletin but there shouldnt be a way for him to get the entire list of email addresses unless he went and looked at every membe's profile. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I have used invision and vbulleting is pretty much the same thing.

ummm.....I am not so sure about that. If there is or were a utility in the ACP for database backup, one could conceivably offload the entire database. Whether this disgruntled member was that knowledgable or not, I cannot say.

Since Chroder said that the "vBulletin queue was stopped", I am taking that as the user employing the mass email functions, and was not using his own mailer. If the mail had appeared in your inbox and not coming from the mail hosts at WMT, then you would have cause to worry.

You can say that again.

I suspected that the forum was hacked when I received that email and the forum was not accessible. I ve seen forums get hacked before.

Well, I didn't receive anything, but I was glad to get the email - been so busy recently hadn't had a chance to drop by the forums, and this reminded me that I really should!

Got the sicko's email. Somebody should really provide him with some serious toilet training. Not appropriate at all for a baby like me. Webmaster-talk should publish his complete contact details.....
