Hello everyone!
We've upgraded our forum software to it's latest version. This new version carries a bunch of new features -- some of which you, the end user, can enjoy. - Rewritten message editor
The new message editors are much better, especially the WYSIWYG. If you never used WYSIWYG in the past due to small annoyances or bugs (like me), try it now. You'll be pleasantly surprised!
There is also a new button on the WYSIWYG editor that allows you to instantly switch back to the standard (BBCode) editor if you just need to fine tune something.
- Super-Quick Reply
Using AJAX technology, replies made in the "Quick Reply" form on the bottom of a thread can be added almost instantly -- no new page load required! Click "Submit" and your reply will be saved and displayed to you in record time.
- Inline post edit
Click the "Edit" button on one of your posts and you will see an editor box popup in place of your post, allowing you to edit and save your posts without reloading the page. If you need the advanced controls, you can simply click the "Go Advanced" button to go back to the usual edit page.
- Username suggestion for PM recipients and search by user
Whenever you are inserting a user name into either the PM recipient box or the search by user box, a handy drop-down menu will appear with suggestions as you type.
- Database-based thread and forum read marking
The marked-read system has been improved 100%. Threads that you have not read will stay unread until you read them -- the way things should work! If you don't recall, older versions would automatically mark threads as read as soon as you were inactive for 30 minutes or more.
- New attach bbcode tag for placing attachments inline with messages
You can now attach files to your post and link to them (or display the thumbnails of images) inside of your post.
- New noparse bbcode tag for disabling bbcode parsing
If you ever need to disable BBCode parsing for some reason, you can just use the new [noparse ][/noparse] tags.
- Attachment upload via URL
You can now upload attachments from a remote site using the URL.
- Ability to preview signature edits
You can finally preview your signature edit before saving them. It's a small feature, but I bet all of us wanted it.
- Bug fixes
Of course, this new release brings us bug fixes and better browser support for advanced features.
You could probably notice the style has reverted back to the default. We've been working on a new look for Webmaster-Talk and we just have to tweak a few things before it goes live -- so please bear with this not-so-WT style for a little while!
If you run into any problems, please let us know. As far as we can see, the upgrade went smoothly -- but don't hesitate to report problems.
Note: Many changes have been made to Javascript files. Most modern browsers cache Javascript files, so it is vital you clear your cache. You will likely receive Javascript errors and you will not be able to use many new features until you do so.
