Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum, so I hope this question hasn't come up too often! I've almost completed college and have a pretty decent amount of real-world experience doing web design, development, flash, ecommerce, etc., but I don't have a very good grasp of pricing and rates for freelance work. This summer, I worked as a company's designer, but the pay was abysmal ($13/hr) and I could see the work I was doing had been going for much more ($60-90) only to be swallowed by overhead. I realize rates can start pretty low, but I'm looking for a professional average, either by hour or by project in the following categories:
Web Design (includes production, content, SEO, programming)
- Website (static)
- Website (CMS-enabled)
- Website (eCommrce enabled -- full fledged shopping cart)
Flash design (by the hour, perhaps?)
- Animation
- Actionscript
- Interface Design
Like most designers, I hope to land a bunch of freelance work and eventually start my own company. For the moment, I've been steadily raising my rates according to demand and my perception of quality ($25/hr), but getting an idea of industry-expected pricing would really help me gauge budgets better.
I can give more of a personal history if you guys are interested, but I might save that for the Member Intro forum once I redo my website
Thanks!
