It's not something that I would put my money into. Google is already going to add a reporting system for paid link systems. This would end up being a large one. The reporting system would be used so that anyone who decides to pay for backlinks will be dropped in PR if found doing so, or reported doing so in this case.

However, PR is only a small factor in deciding the price value. The main part of the value comes from the demand and traffic of the links. Therefore, even if all the search engines do not list LinkVestor.com in their SERP, LinkVestors can still profit when more people buy the links.

Last time I checked, he wasn't selling websites, nor was I stating the value of his website. I was simply discussing PR. The only reason someone would purchase the link was to be on top, meaning their PR. As far as them paying for it, it would be an easy venue for some one who took Google too seriously to go to and report everyone on the site. Thus dropping the google search rank of all the sites there. And then not only would the advertising be pointless for those who paid for it, it would also prevent them from getting higher rankings in the future. The PR is what would determine that rank on the search.

That's not necessarily true, mackaltman. Any "link juice" passed from a LinkVestor link would be discounted, but the recipients of the site links wouldn't be penalized unless the scheme were arranged in such a way such that proof of purchase could easily be determined.

It would be all too easy for a competitor to kill a site simply by purchasing links, were that to be the case.

Mind you, you've got the right general idea: purchasing links for SEO purposes is a wasted exercise.
