I had something like 17,000 spam comments on my blog and took up all of my disk space. I need to prevent this. I need some kind of hack to make a visual confirmation or something to keep the bots from posting.

^ Check those out. It seems like what's you're describing.

Buck install either the Akismet or Spam Karma 2 plugins for WordPress. Either should prevent most of the spam from getting through.

Askimet and spam-karma can work together - I've never used it, but I did have a look at it once.

I can't imagine how great both working together would be like!

It's not automatically enabled though - therefore many people don't even realise it's there!

Interesting. There aren't really alot of antispam features included in WP.

Akismet is included. You just need to turn it on. Spam Karma 2 is a plugin you can easily add.

How do I turn it on Aksimet? I uploaded spam kharma, now I can at least mass moderate the comments 1000 or so at a time.

Login the admin section and then go to Plugins. You can activate from there. But you will also need a WordPress.com API key to use it.

its quite suprising i jsut found that by loging think right if i wanted to mass edit where would i look.

Akismet stopped most of my spam when I had a wordpress blog, though there are many others. If you are a PHP Developer perhaps implement your own CAPTCHA or something...

I really don't have time to learn all of this stuff. I'm extremely busy. I use just want a script that does all of stuff that really it should already do. I don't have to time to learn all of this stuff. I'm busy with my own concerns. Usually people who answer the question are experts in the field and can really help me out. I advise people who ask questions within my area of expertise. That's how online communities work. The nerdery has to stop somewhere becuase. Not all of us can be super geeks and know everything about everything.

I would have to know what API to even know what you are talking about. Right? Right. And I apologies in advance for coming off a little bit harsh.

OK next question. How do you set up you options to so when people backtrack you the linkbacks won't show up as comments until you approve them? I don't mind free links but there are few adult blogs linking in becuase my site has some non adult sex related articles. That's fine for them to link to me but the problem now is that I have to delete the comments after they are published on the blog. I don't want any adult links showing up on my blog.

So basically to get one you have to:
With a WP.com account: Profile Page > Global Dashboard > My Profile (Top right), it’ll say what it is, here
W/O a WP.com account: Just register with wordpress.com and they’ll email it to you

In order to moderate comments, trackbacks, etc. go to:
WP Dashboard > Options > Discussion > then check “an administrator must always approve the comment”

This’ll be set for all comments though, not just pings, trackbacks, etc.
