to make the groups ... you need the users and user profiles ...
so that is almost the whole myspace ...

Are you looking for something that resembles Elgg (http://www.elgg.org/). I've heard good things about that, but I'm not sure it's what you're after as I haven't really looked at Elgg. It's free, and like a package and a box, or so I've heard.
