PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites : Visual QuickPro Guide (2nd Edition) (Visual Quickpro Guide)
By Larry Ullman

IMO, absolutely the best book out there. Actually, any book by Larry Ullman is great.
Just take a look at the reviews.

Not much has changed since this book came out. His next book hasn't been released yet.
You can go to his web site to get any errata. I have his previous releases and they really
helped me out. IMO, you won't find another book that's thorough and easy to understand.

Sure thing.
But, as Larry points out in his blog, only about 20% of hosts have recently upgraded
to PHP5. It's going to be a long time before anyone upgrades to PHP6 when it comes
out. Amazon still hasn't released his other PHP book yet and it was published in March.
So, you might be waiting a while for the one you mentioned.

Just my 2 cents.
