Hi,

just making a simple file editor, and am thinking. i dont particularly want to CMOD every file on my account to writable so i can use my CMS file editor.

But im thinking, would it be a good idea to when the file is opened, CMOD it to 777 and then once its been saved CMOD it back to what ever it was before (by storing the original permissions in avariable or something)

Quite a good idea, but to made something writable you just need to make it 666.

I've been doing this for a while (In the various CMS's, etc what have you I wrote). It's generally good practice.

It seems the only problem with this is it the changes ownership of the file(s) to nobody and when i use FTP and cPanel because i (ukcalm) as auser dont have "ownership" of the file i cant delete it and stuff, so i need a root to change ownershop back to me or acording to my host run it under PHP4 which i really dont want to do..

this is the bother...
