Hello, I just recently installed mysql and set up the database on localhost with root as the username. I went over to sqlyog and it connected fine. Then when I go to My SmartFTP Client and logon to my web server, I got a script for registration and when I clicked on the sign up button it always goes to the register.php page and says "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)". Any help would be greatly appreciated I just can't seem to find the answer. Is there something I have to do to get the database from localhost onto my web server. Also I have apache and php installed on my computer too. Thanks.

What type of system is it? Try this in the command line (for Linux):
Quote:
mysql
mysql --user=root
mysql --user=root --password
Let me know the results.

If I understand you correctly, you set up things on a local box and then used ftp to transfer the files to a remote web host.

If so, you will need to know the server name that the hosting company refers to for your mysql database.

If you can provide more information, it will help us, help you.

From what I remember when I was using godaddy it required you to enter the correct local IP such as 10.#.#.# but try using your domain instead of localhost.

Go to godaddy.com and login. On the green menu choose "Hosting and Servers" -> "My Hosting Account". On the next page choose "open" next to your domain.

On the Hosting page that comes up click on "Databases" then the "MySQL" icon.

This will bring up a page with a list of databases. Click the pencil icon for View/Edit details and this will have information including the database server name.

Since you don't know, my guess is you will have to create the database. When you do, it will give you the server name. Something like, p50mysql7.secureserver.net
