Not sure if an eBook (or any other book) is the best way to learn.

Instead, try finding existing scripts from hotscripts.com or elsewhere that do what you want to achieve and edit them, rebuild them and learn to understand how they work. I found I picked it up extremely quickly that way, even if my earliest scripts were pretty poor.

You'll save yourself a lot of time if you use a book or tutorial rather than trying to pick apart someone else's bad code. It's better to learn things right the first time. Personally, if you want a book (not an e-book), I'd recommend anything by Larry Ullman. You can pick something up from ebay, or Amazon for a couple bucks.
