This is a really simple script, but I just can't seem to get it to work. All I want is a script that will display a form where I can browse my PC and select an image file and then submit and upload it to a directory on my server. The directory will stay the same so can be hard coded into the php itself and doesn't need to be selected.

That's it, that's all I want, just a form to upload an image. I've looked at a couple of tutorials, and the code is exttremely basic...but I just cannot get any of them to work. Is there anyone here who could offer me a little help?

Why don't you post the code your using and where your using it. It could be an error with your host or something.

RTFM "Handling file uploads" chapter from native php manual, it descibes file uploads pretty well along with giving the working example.

The code I used was the one in this tutorial:
http://php.about.com/od/advancedphp/...ile_upload.htm

did exactly what they said and it returned a server error...

Do not try to use third-party examples until you carefully read the native manual and get some understanding of how it works.
