MS,

PHP offers a wealth of capabilities to enable a web server to produce dynamic pages. The possibilities of what you could do with this technology is hard to quantify, but the most common uses are database-driven sites using most often MySQL. This technology drives online stores, information searches, etc.

To get started, www.php.net or better yet, if you are very interested in learning PHP, I would suggest an introductory text.

To add to what everyone else has said I really love PHP's documentation. If you ever have a question about what functions performs what action you will find it quickly on php.net.

but to practise, you will find yourself writing millions of little scripts like this;

PHP Code:
<?php
$dog
"goat";
echo
"my dog is a $dog\n";
?>
