Hi, this is my first post here and i would like to state this site is wonderful, ok onto my question.

I currently play alot of pen & paper rpgs like dungeons and dragons. i have a site setup actually its a cms, my question is how hard would it be to make a i guess it would be a form of some sorts written in php/sql to make a online character sheet, where my members could enter updated information to the character they have made. would this be a novice task or advanced and could someone put me in the right direction as to maybe some tuts to learn how to build this. also, i have very little php/sql knowledge, but i learn quickly.

Thanx

Rezzno, it all depends on how in-depth you want to go. You could trust your members to be truthful when updating their info, and do it all manually, or make it automatically update. Then it becomes a tad more complex... here is a strategy game written in MySQL and PHP; http://phpgame1.webworrks.com. This becomes very complex when you get to coding stuff like that. However, if you just want to let your users do the updating, all you would need is a mysql table with player stats, username, password, etc, and a login page / form to update information. You could learn to do that within half an hour........ Just learn about mysql table creation through php.

like webworrks said,
it depends on how in dept you wana go.
if you wana take the easy less atractive way, you can if you want save all the values in cookies.
But if that person deletes all they're cookies they're messed.
Or you can setup a register and login system, quite a bit more complex, but much easyer for your friends.
If you really want, I could "slowly" work on it for you.
or you can just read up on the stuff, and make it yourself (better way cause I'm trying to currently get a site going)
So it's up to you.

What im really after is a way to make a plugin for the cms i use ( or atleast use the registration/login from it. here is my site http://shadowsvale.servegame.com/ i currently use the cms php-fusion located at http://php-fusion.co.uk. i will continue to read up on this, as most of it is greek to me at this point. i appreciate all the quick responses and any help would be greatful. im guessing with me already using the cms, building just a plugin/addon would be much easier than trying to build a complete system with user auth.. and all in it.

Well todo that, who ever is going to, would need database access, and script access.
So I would recemend that you do it yourself. read up on, php, mysql (i know you know a bit, but you need to go deeper into it)
Good luck.
