Hi,

My apache server has been installed and it is working when I type "localhost" in the browser. IT says "IT Works" but I am unable to find the location of the file that it is rendering.

I have deleted all the apache foundation files, deinstalled Apache service and all related files, but when I still go to "localhost" on my server, the "it works" still shows and I am not able to connect php to this because I cannot find the file.

Can someone help me solve this problem?

Thanks

If you've deleted everything and it still works, it's probably just a matter of turning the service off and everything will go bye-bye.

Not sure what version of Apache you're using, but 1.3 still seems to be the most popular, so I'm going to assume you've read through this: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/windows.html

I'd imagine the configuration file 'httpd.conf' in your 'conf' folder is where you'll be able to find the DocumentRoot... I don't run apache on Windows, but I imagine the default is something like 'htdocs' or similar..

If you're running 2.2, here's a quick overview: http://www.ricocheting.com/server/apache.html

Ain't google amazing?

your right, just look for the DocumentRoot in your httpd.conf (it gets a little more difficult when you have virtual roots and stuff, but you'll be able to find it from your httpd.conf

Did you install it yourself or did you use something like wampserver?

Try:
file:///C:/wamp/bin/apache/apache2.2...ocs/index.html

or
file:///C:/wamp/www

C:/whereever-you-installed-it/bin/apache/../htdocs

Just get a mac, everything is so much easier!

I am using vista machine as well. I will advise you to get a package called wamp server. You can go to google to search for that. I will help you for the entire installation and it support vista. So no more nightmare for you.
