hello friends

I have been in .NET web development from last 2.5 years or more. We have developed more than 4 web portals using .NET, In one of our websites on travel - Rajasthan Travel Guide we have requirement of having Hotels section where we can provide booking.

Now as I am really busy with other sites, I was recommended by my friend to design the sections using Joomla which he said was the best cms so far. I have installed it on my site but im still reluctant to switch.

The new hotels section will most probably contain a booking as well as a payment gateway in future versions. please suggest whether i should move and work (learning also a part) on php when i already been working on .NET from last 2yrs or more.

thanks,

I will not prefer to switch this project into Joomla if you are working on it from more than 2 years as it is totally waste of time to re-develop all the things.

Ask him the reason about switching over this project in Joomla. If there is any proper reason OR some UN-compatibility with .Net then you can switch so it is must to know the reasons.

thanks saurabh for your views. he is not asking me to move to joomla, its due to time concerns that he has advised me to switch. only question i would like to inquire about is Joomla very easy to learn and implement?

You don't neet to switch to PHP, it will take a big time to convert two years of work from .net to .php .
But I advice you to develop all your future websites in php.

That like saying "Should I shoot myself in the foot?". If you think your better with .NET go for it, but if you have already got a strong knowledge in PHP and not .Net i suggest you stick with PHP.

i dont have any background of php, but i have a sound knowledge of .NET development of around 2.5-3 yrs. only issues with me was with time. does php development takes lesser time becoz of availability of Joomla n other cms?

When you opt to use a CMS it's no longer a php development project, the majority of the development is done. It's more or less reduced to a template and tweaking project.

i know this part, and becoz of the time constraints i can go for these cms. but i am not sure whether the flexibility offered at Joomla for php would be anywhere near to hand coding in .NET
Whats your suggestions?
