Okay this is really doing my head in now, been looking this up all day and im about to explode.

I want to do something VERY simple! but its being very hard.

Okay on my support page i have a MSN chat window (got code for it off MSN site) http://xdnet.co.uk/support.php

now basically, i want to use this instead of my current live chat system, because i never use live chat and its permenantly offline but MSN is on when i am online all the time so it is ideal.

So i know how to get the chat, but i now want to have it so i can have

if($mystatus = 'online')
{
show chat
}
else {
take a message
}

but i cant find a way that works to be able to get the status!

i have set up a second account if it needs to be logged in... so i can use that to authenticate it if necessary, i have the bit turned off so anyone can see status but im just lost

i need something simple which i can just stick in my msn id and return my current status!

If I understand it well, it will leave you the field open by using Curl to send and parse back msn protocol messages.

Just having a look at those now, just to be clear i dont want to make it so i can chat i want it just to retrieve status (i will use MS prebuilt webchat )

It explain how to send message, but it document how to communicate with the msn server with an http post, and how to ask them informations.

So, you could use this to open a session, and ask the msn server if your username is registered as connected and not busy.

Is there a way you could somehow have like a command prompt window open to send these commands?

With curl.
Setup a post, send it, and parse the return.
Then continue for each step the send/parse gig until you get the online status.
I did not read enough to see in which order this should be done, and how many step it would be.
