I am going to create a database driven directory/review website. The
site will have all the same functionality as Yelp.com. I'll have user
submitted ratings and reviews, user submitted listings, sponsored listings, user profiles with some social networking, an integrated google map and maybe additional items such as an events calendar. There's
a lot more, but that is the core functionality.
I am currently interviewing web developers and I have had different
developers suggest using different open source technologies. I expect
to get different answers from different developers depending on what they are comfortable with. I'm hoping that by coming here I can get some sort of a consensus as to which platform
I should use to develop the site.
The three options I have been presented with are:
1. Joomla w/JReviews
2. CMS Made Simple
3. PHPMyDirectory
I expect that each of them can do the job. Which is the easiest to
work with? Which is the most scalable? If I want to add a lot of new
features later on is one more likely to be flexible enough to
accommodate me than the others? Any difference in SEO between the
three? The developer I want to go with suggests PHPMyDirectory, but most other developers suggest using Joomla so I wanat to make sure PHPMyDirectory is a good match for my purposes. If you have had experience with these then please let me know which one you would suggest. Thank you!
