How can I make a small newsletter form that just has one section that you put your email into and hit submit?

How do most people do this?

When someone hits send does it send an email to someone who then just saves it?

Or is it more of an automatic process where the address gets put into a mailing list or something?

It's usually that the email gets added to an mailing list. There are a variety of programs, scripts, and services to set up a mailing list. I think many will have options to create your newsletter and allow you to send it out to your entire mailing list.

You should look for something that allows multiple mailing lists. So you could have 2 newsletters and have some people subscribed to one and some to the other. Aweber is a popular service for mailing lists. It's not free though. If you search you should be able to find some free options and more pay options.

The form on your site is then connected to the mailing list manager. The mailing list manager will likely give you the code for the form and then you can style it to fit in with your site.

You could also create a basic script to do this, so when a user subscribs their email is saved to a database, and then when you want to send mail just query the DB for all the relevent emails etc

But if you dont think o thats easy... go for a pre-made script

Thats great! and to fix the privacy prob someone could just set the email.txt so no one could view it and then when they want to see it they can download it using ftp.

You could also decide to develop your own script. Have a look at this http://www.codedcode.com/php/mailing-list
