I need some kind of search engine on my website that will search through the html pages. I know google provides it's engine embedded on websites, but is there another cheap solution?

It's true, if you do it yourself it costs nothing and you know it from top the bottom.

Nutch, phpDig both free.

Set them to crawl on your site only.

Fluid Dynamics FDSE has a free one. They used to install it for free.

I suggest you create and then delete afterwards a new ftp user if going with their installer.

I thought about making it myself, but knowing as little as I do about search engines it wouldn't be very robust.

I found "Sphider" through looking up phpDig, and it seems to work pretty well.
