Hello, I'm new here and a bit new to web design so I wasn't even sure where to post this question.

Anyway a client of mine would like to be able to upload content on their own when the website is complete. No pictures or graphics just words. What is the best/easiest way to set this up? Thanks!

You need to use a form to accept input from a web browser and send it back to the web server where you can process it.
Read about html form at http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_forms.asp
This is pretty basic.
You must use the post or get method to send back the data to the web server.

Are they just looking to post on their site? Something like news or updates? What do you mean by "upload to their site"?

If you mean upload files to share, you can just create a file upload form. If you mean publish news/stories, that's different.

There are loads of basic CMS systems around, just google and you'll be spoilt for choice.... The only problem that I've found when trying to implement this for a site is that most of the free ones (that I try ed at least...) were either over complicated or completely useless in the first place.

Coding one yourself would be the best solution as you can get it to do exactly what you want but may prove a little too ambitious if you have never done anything like it before.

The best answer is, as always, have a go - then ask when for help when you need it!

Good luck!

There was a discussion in another forum about this and this software came up http://www.flyspeck.net/

Looks like you can set it up so they can't break the whole site at one time. The other option that I suggested before this one came along was simply use php to include a text file which is in a different directory and only give the client ftp to that one directory.

If you've already began work on the site and this was not specified in the contract be sure to charge extra I'd recommend sNews but it really depends on what kind of text they need to add/update
