Just wondered what is your recommended development framework. Personally I haven't done a great deal of PHP but have previously coded in many other languages. Looking for something that can take the grind out of database programming and everyday tasks. We don't do any heavy weight apps currently so its all fairly lightweight. Any links and/or suggestions appreciated.

The Zend framework is one that I have used in the past and was very good. If you have programmed in other languages you should find PHP nice and easy to pick up, especially if the languages you have worked in were object orientated as you will be able to learn PHP OO relatively easily.

Try Zend though, its free and feature packed

If you're just starting with PHP I recommend you stay away from frameworks altogether. Its important to understand the basics of the language before you start relying on frameworks. Personally I've tried frameworks, but I've always preferred working without one.

I don't know that I could recommend one to use, but you might want to check out Zend Framework, CodeIgniter, CakePHP, and Symfony. Those are the frameworks I've heard most about.

Thanks. Will look into these. Done a bit of simple PHP to validate forms but not anything complicated. I do like class frameworks though, just from the fact that there are always hidden gems in them.

I;d agree that switching to frameworks at early stage will be like driving a ferrari with a learner's license.

Once you feel confident that your 100+ line code will run, even if the monitor is turned off, download symphony. Not before that.
