Hi all,

I was wondering if someone here could please steer me in the right direction to get an rss feeder service set up on a website.

What I would like to do - is have my RSS subcriber service option set up so that users would be able to see new updates to a section of my website as they are subscribed through their RSS reader.

For an example of what I mean, the bbc website has a service set up so that users can select which section of the news site they would like to be updated for new content.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/help/3223484.stm#mysite

I've been delving into the RSS service a little bit thorough the tutorial provided below - but am still very confused on how to get it all to work. I have not much xml or php background. http://www.virtuosimedia.com/article.php?id=60

Can someone shed a little bit more light on how I could get this set up on my site? Thanks SO much. I've learned a lot through coming to this forum.

M

The easiest way to do that is to publish on a content management system that already handles rss. Where is your site now?

You can also try something like Simple Pie, which is a php class that will handle most of the details for you. You'll probably still need some php knowledge to make it work, but it should do most of the hard stuff for you.

Thanks for the response Van Gogh.

The site right now is www.iongeo.com. We currently use a content management system SAM to maintain pages for the site.

I don't think there is a current way to integrate RSS feeds into it, but I am definitely open to any suggestions.

This task is looking more daunting than I thought...

Lil help?

I took a look at SAM and don't see any mention of rss or feeds so I'm guessing they aren't built in.

Try to look through the Simple Pie site (Here are the getting started tutorials) and see if you can understand enough about how to work with it to incorporate on your site. You will need some understanding of php and how to work with SAM to make this work though.

You'll have to decide whether or not you want to learn php or if you'd prefer to hire someone to do the work. I don't think it would cost too much.
