$_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'] will contain some information about a user's browser. Restricting your site to firefox users might not be the best idea, however. Personally I use Opera, lots of people use safari and IE8 doesn't share many of the problems of IE7 or IE6 (especially). If the issues you are having are unique to IE6, you may want to take a look at this:

Firefox and some other browsers have gained more users, but seeing as IE still is the most popular one it would probably be better to work out your problems rather than cutting out most of your veiwers.

How about asking in the HTML or CSS forums and pointing out the problems?

Blocking out upwards of 75% of users AND every search engine going, seems a little OTT for what will very likely be a very small modification to the code

I agree, if they page is looking all weird in IE it's more than likely the CSS. Unless you don't want many people to view your site you shouldn't restrict browsers.

It's better to fix your website than to block a browser completely. After all, there are currently more IE users than Firefox users. Find the part that doesn't look right and meddle with the corresponding code.
