Advice for learning WordPress as a CMS?

I was recently approached about creating a site for someone but they requested that I use WordPress to do it since they find it easy to edit and maintain their site through WordPress.

I have never used WordPress (was planning on skipping it and learning Joomla instead). But since it was requested of me I am wondering how quickly it can be learned and what are some good resources for learning to use it as a CMS.

Thanks in advance.

(Sorry, not exactly a PHP topic... couldn't think of a better place to post.)

I use wordpress all the time for a cms. Too many think it is just for a blog platform. No way. Custom fields, custom template exactly how you want it, custom home page, etc. Too much to name here.

That depends. You can get a good grip in a day. Templating your own design is an ongoing process. Expect about a week to get the grips of it, then you will build on that. Here is a good tut to follow:
