Hello there,

I am building a website for a client and I am more a designer by trade. He is asking for some functions that force me to dive into PHP and maybe Javascript areas.

I need an experienced coders advice, so here's my issue.

I have setup a a text based log in function that checks the log in against a text file. In this database is his customer's name, apt. numbers and address.

Okay, after a customer logs in he wants a button with a "MOVE OUT" function. Basically, what this does is send a letter to the customer with the customer's name, current date and their apartment number in a .pdf.

How can I get the database to read the customer's log in then transfer those fields that relate to the customer to the .pdf and then get it sent off (well I know that part)?

Should I be using a PHP or Javascript or something else?

I really am not sure. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

If you do know, anybody capable of coding it? Is there a free script someone could point me to?

Thanks.

Any server side code could be used.

PHP / ASP / PERL / ( as chris said , any server side language will do )

Id personally use php.
How to convert what you want to a pdf? i dont know. a simple google search may help here.

Other than that, you can get php to manipulate any data in a database to do whatever you want.

May be a bit harder if all your data is in a flat file rather than a sql database or alike.

Understood.

Much appreciated, can anyone point me to free script that would be able to accomplish something similar that I could modify?

Thanks.

I can't say I've ever come across an "eviction by email" script

But it is just the same as any other "Contact" type of script, submit a form, backend script formats a message, adds an attachment and sends the message.

It does not matter what the end use is, that's merely aesthetics, the principles are the same.
