MySQL Database - Location and Creation

Hi

I am trying to create a MYSQL database to link the content to the website, firstly, the database is currently in Access, how do I convert this to MySQL database?

Secondly, the website is just in the folder, no way to add it to the host via phpmyadmin, just a folder, do I literally just copy and paste the database into the local folder?

Cheers

First does the hosting account currently come with one or more MySQL databases? Not every hosting account comes with one. Assuming it does then you'll need to create the database through the hosting control panel. If the control panel for the account doesn't offer anything to create a database then you may need to upgrade the hosting account or switch to another host.

Here's a program I found that will convert an Access database to a MySQL database. I've never used it myself. It looks like you first set up the MySQL database and the program will convert it to MySQL and also upload it to the server.

Can access create a generic SQL dump file

If it does then you can simply import that into your new MYSQL database using PHPMyAdmin

If you output the export to a simple format and import using EMS MYSQL Manager or PHPMYADMIN

I own it but don't have much practice using it.

A direct export to mysql does not appear to be an option on the version I have (2007).

I think you can do a CSV export which can then be imported into mysql if you know how to do it.

There are also data converters you can buy. Some are shareware.

Whichever you may try make lots of back-ups before you play. BTDT and learned the hard way.
