I'm having trouble adding the background without messing up the whole layout

Does anyone know how to fix it?

I don't your problem comes by adding a background. Your issue is with #contenido and #footer elements. They have an em defined width. Is too long.

I created a new div around the whole thing, and used background-position: center; instead of text-align:center; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto;

It's working now :/
