One of the neatest things i've ever seen so far was an installation script for the self-same script.

I don't know why I found it so fascinating, but I did. Maybe because so many amateur scripts out there lack this feature. I think it really separates the more professional looking ones from the not-so professional.

I think it shows that the programmer put in that extra effort to present the script in a more professional manner, and I think even programmers (who are more than comfortable uploading a SQL file, or performing a "SQL dump") appreciate this feature. It just feels cleaner, less archaic.

Wordpress is pretty cool as far as code I've read, though most of the code that goes into the templates is borderline horrendous. The back-end is very creatively organized and written.

The coolest thing I can think of is Wordpress' ability to install and update plugins.

The wordpress core code is good, but I've seen some absolutely terrible code in plugins and templates. There is a screening process for plugins to be allowed into the repository, but I think they are mainly looking for malicious or illegal content, not awful code.

I have a hard time thinking about that in terms of PHP alone.

But in combination with Ajax and MySQL, PHP can be a very powerful and enable easy to use web interfaces. It is also relatively easy to learn.
