i want to redirect a specific url to my home page. that url is a broken link (404 error). how to redirect the url to home page please help.

What you need is a .htaccess page which will handle all the errors you specify and redirect you to the page you want.

like

ErrorDocument 404 http://www.yoursite.com

Or you could ErrorDocument a 404 page, and that page has an instand meta redirect to the index page.
