In my opinion it's a waste of money. As a medium, video isn't very good for reference and if you're looking for a tutorial you can find plenty for free.

There are many different types of learners such as audio, visual, etc. Videos are really easy for me to learn from, reading a book bores me to death so I don't comprehend it as well.

Video just seems very inconvenient to me when it comes time to reference something. For instance if you're trying to remember how to use a for loop is it easier to start up your video tutorial, search for the for loop part, and watch it all over again, or is it easier to flip open a book to the right section and skim for the info you need?

There is also the issue of credibility. Anyone can record themselves teaching bad programming and then charge a hundred bucks for it. A published book tends to be more credible. By the way, the release date of the video in the first link is 2002. That's PHP 4.2-4.3. I would pay not to watch those videos considering all of the outdated info they must contain.

I think you have to practice. A video can tell you some basics but the programming itself is not a show or a discussion... is something about brain and knowledge that you have to practice (examples and... simple practice).

// edit // If you have no ideas about php or programming you can have a basic movie, but it will not help you so much.

Actually I do my initial learning through videos and use books/docs for reference if I need a quick lookup
