Create a PHP forum (software), where users can register and post.

Required Features:

1. The user must be able to Register, Login, and Logout
2. There must be different levels of members, ie admins, moderators, members
3. Admins must be able to ban / edit other's posts
4. Other generic forum features

Optional Features:

• The user can get an email confirmation link sent to them to activate their account
• The user can edit their information and posts
• The forum logs information such as IP addresses
• The forum has a WYSIWYG editor (custom made)
• Smileys

Note: NullPointer made the suggestion that Tasks 4 & 5 could have 'teams', where some developers who specialize in certain aspects band together to complete this task. Like he said, it would spark communication, allowing everybody to get to know each other a little more . Feel free to post your 'team\'s' result down below

I was trying to think of a way to make this task a little more accessible (even a stripped down lightweight forum is still a lot of work) and it occurred to me that it might be a good idea to turn it into a sort of community task.

Instead of one person trying to tackle it on their own we could collaborate. Divide the project into components that should be more reasonable for a single person to handle.

It would take a lot of communication to work out the requirements and ensure that all of the pieces fit together, but it could be a good experience for everyone.

Thoughts?
