I'm new to php and am attempting to follow along with a book to learn php and mysql. It suggested I download xampp so I did and changed the password which worked fine. Today however I changed the password again and selected the "no password" option, went to log in and it said it was unable to log in. I ran the xampp_stop.exe in the command prompt then started it again. Now its not telling me that it can't log in but the screen blinks as if its reloading but I'm not actually taken anywhere. If I try my old password it tells me it coldnt log in??

I've checked google and the best answer I could find was to check the config.inc.php file which I did and the password is: '' which I keep trying.

Any ideas of how to get my password back or change it?

Seems strange. It might just be simplest to uninstall xampp and then reinstall it. You should be able to set it up again with whatever password you want like you did the first time. As long as you didn't do a lot with it yet, you probably don't have much data that can't be reproduced.

There might be a better way to get back your password and hopefully someone has a better suggestion, but reinstalling isn't going to take long so maybe it's not such a bad option.

Thanks that worked. I only had one database with a couple tables that was easy to reproduce.

Looks like better info came along a little too late.

I've hosed a few things here or there when first learning and installing. Sometimes I put in the time to figure out what I did and why, but sometimes it's just quicker and easier to start over from scratch. Depends on how much I want to learn the what and why and how far along I am in being able to understand the information.

Glad you didn't have much that needed saving and that the reinstall worked. Probably a good idea to check the article Chris linked to just in case and also to understand how to fix things if there's a next time when you can't wipe out the data you've created.

I've done that before.

I guess reinstalling was the right way to go then. Hopefully the second time through led to a deeper understanding of how to work with xampp.
