Seeking information about A PHP Compiler?

I was just reading the thread on PHP v C

I read somewhere in that thread that there may be a PHP compiler in existence, which would greatly enhance the server speed.

Could someone here provide me with the links to this?

Would PHP4 naturally accept such a compiled program, or would I need to place onto the server some kind of software to do that for me?

Any other information on this question would be welcome.

PHP can be used to create rich user interfaces in a desktop application. The most popular method for doing this is with PHP-GTK: http://gtk.php.net/ It is supposed to be possible to get these applications to compile with Roadsend I believe. There's also another UI library built on QT, called, oddly enough, PHP-QT: http://www.php-qt.org/

Also, check this out. Facebook runs on it, apparently, and I also believe they made it.

I used this a few months ago on a very intensive PHP script I made, and it dramatically improved the executing speed by about 15%.
