Hello............

I have a web forum that was "hacked". It is based on phpBB2 freeware.

To fix it and retain the (hacked) structure and data requires knowledge of php and SQL.

Basically I need to upgrade my old copy, after restoring it (from 2.0.8 to 2.0.13) and then replace it with the latest version. This article outlines what is needed:

http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=271

This is beyond my personal ability tool kit. Does anyone have any interest in helping (for a fee) or know someone?

Thanks

you'd have to shed some more light on the situation. PM me, also you might want to consider starting anew if you don't have too many users or too many mods.

Aye right!!!!!

Let us all play into the arseholes who decide to hack websites.

If you still need help, I will be glad to fix your board for you, I am sick of these wee numpties thinking they can find a loophole in a language and create **** for some.

Do not lay down to them and reinstall. You might not lose much but if you do it means they have won!!!

Steve.

Hi All...........Thanks for the responses!

Here's where I stand:

I found that my host (www.superb.net) had a complete backup, which I had them do. This back up is for a period (3/24) "prior" to the hack (about 4/13), so it should be OK. When I looked at the back up file on the host server, it is ~1.4MB but has no file extension. So I don't know what to do with it. I am waiting for my host to tell me what to do to retrieve the info. Here is my request to my host, I'm waiting for an answer............I hope this info. I'm giving you isn't overkill......but as I said, this stuff is new to me.
***********************************************
To SUPERB TECH SUPPORT> "I think I need some help. I thought "back up" meant that everything it that folder (ie: the one backed up) would be restored to what it was as of the time of back up. Now, what I see in FormBackup is a file BackupPC_Admin. I thought if I now accessed it, say, like this:
http://www.candylandcrafts.com/FormBackup

I would basically see the forum "as it was", and that if I ftp'd to that location I would see all the old files (as they were on 3/24/05).

But when I try to access the http://www.candylandcrafts.com/FormBackup file, I get a Directory Structure listing, and if I click on the BackupPC_Admin folder, it asks me if I want to download it.

When I go to the web site via ftp, I see the same file but no details. When I download it to my computer, there's no extension, if I try to treat it as a zip file and upzip it, Win Zip doesn't recognize it as a valid file.

Can you tell me what the file is, and how do I get it back to my original file structure, etc"
********************************************
The reason I want to keep my original board and structure is (1) I had about 375 registered users (2) It was very time consuming top "build" the board in the beginning, and now that I've got a base of interested people, I "don't" want to start from scratch.

Right now I'm waiting to hear from my host. tech on the back up.

If anyone is willing to follow up with me, please send me an email!!

Thanks again............. :-) :-)

Hello again all..............

I've finally worked around the back up problem and now have a complete back up of the forum files BEFORE I was "hacked".

If anyone is able to help from here please let me know!

Thanks.
