What like a WYSIWYG?? That'd be pretty pointless, you could just use dreamweaver and then use the coding tool it has.

If you mean a PHP Editor then check out www.globalscape.com (or it might me www.cuteftp.com) and look at their cuteHTML range, it's pretty good but you'll have to pay for it - although they're a bunch of cool guys, they released 3 licenses to me when I designed a big Unreal Tournament site few years back.

hi,
I've been using UltraEdit that is pretty nice for PHP as well as for a bunch of other languages. A freware alternative would be ConTEXT, made a very good impression on me as well.

I heared Zend Studio is really nice and probably the closest to visual studio (at least that's what I heard). Most importand feature is that you can compile it instead of running at your server so you can get rid of some typos. And as for most of the cool things you'll end up paying for it.

A freeware alternative would be http://www.tswebeditor.tk though it's nothing but a more powerful notepad. Still, I'm using it.

I hope a doublepost is okay in this case...

I just installed Zend Studio 4 professional and I just love it

First the basic features that any editor should have incase you used it for any project with more than 5 lines.
  • Create a project and include only the files you wish. I`'ve seen lot's a editors with a file manager that shows files I don't want to see so this is nice.
  • Colorshemes
  • Codecompletition
  • same shortcuts as in Visual Studio
Apart from that there are three other features I really missed in simple editors
  • syntaxcheck (here called analyze code)
  • debugger
  • run your script locally
Other gimmics are remote debugging and pretty much every connectivity you could think of

As Recrehal said, Zend Studio is the way to go if you're not into traditional Notepad-style programming.

I use FAR with Colorer plugin. No WYSIWYG, but I like it much. I tried many WYSIWYG editors, but they are all crap, so I just gave up looking for the good one and continued to use this text-based editor.

Okay so I tested Zend Studio 4 a bit. This editor is far from matured, but I guess that comes with the language so it should be okay. Features that just can't be missing in any editor are missing in Zend Studio 4:

Auto close (, ', " or }
Never failing textindent. Zend Studio suffers from the commen mistakes.

Not beeing able to hide your functions should also be included and I'm not sure if they have a classview. A nice features is a word-like reddish mark of mistakes. Still, I'm anything but happy with this editor.
