How do I go about setting up a members section on a website?
Like where users have to register a username and password and give there e-mail address to access the hidden areas?

Simple steps please.

Simple steps eh? Unfortunatly this is not a tutorial site, so no-one is going to give you a step by step guide to building a members area, cause it'll be way too many steps and take too long to write.

What I would suggest, is reading about it - that's how most of us learnt (although apparently some people are born with it) so checking out sites like www.sitepoint.com (in particular an article about PHP and mySQL integration and also one about how to build a mini members area) and of course the mostly helpful www.devshed.com

The other way you could of course do it, is to pay... me... lot's and lot's of money (well not really) but something tells me you're not going to want to do that!

Hope this sets you on the way, if you have an coding issues or want to know how to do (small) things then check back here!

it is very complicated!

that what i am doing right now. creating 3 different password protected areas. right now people can sign up and activate the membership but i have no password or locked sections. plus half the site is neven created yet.

To be really simple.. do the following.

Get a MySQL DB
Learn How to use MySQL & PHP
then write it
then go through and debug it!

Members area's are pretty simple, it just depends what you want to do with them. Multi-level user management maybe slightly more complicated, but only because of a little extra coding, just follow the links I supplied and you'll be off to a flying start

charliearchibal,
i don't know exactly what you mean in your question,
so I just answer it as my own thinking
Some simple steps for a simple member section
1. you must have somewhere to store username/password/email ----> database
2. whenever a user registers, you check username, email with database (exist or not)
3. If everthing's ok, save it to database.
4. whenver member login, you check username, password with database (exitst or not)
5. If everything's ok, keep some information (username, login status) for their sessions.
