How? (List of upcoming birthdays)

I'm trying to create a family website. One thing I want on it is a list of upcoming birthdays. I'd like to have the upcoming five birthdays show up on the side of the page.

The only way I can think of doing this is with php and mysql, but I'm a beginner and I don't know where to start.

I want it to look like this...
------------------------------
BIRTHDAYS
Happy Birthday Mark!
(Today's date)

Kyle turns 16
on June 6

Granny turns 71
on July 19

Patti turns 55
on September 23

Gene turns 57
on September 24
------------------------------

I want all the upcoming birthdays to say: "(First Name) turns (Age) on (Date)

and whenever their birthday comes I want it to say "Happy Birthday (First Name)"

How would I go about doing this? I don't want a calendar. Just a simple list of the birthdays as they happen during the year

Remember, I'm a beginner so telling me to create a table with "such and such" fields isn't really going to help. The only thing I've accomplished so far with PHP is passing variables with forms. Databases are the next step. I need simple, informative directions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :-)

Hi jacannon2, welcome to PHP! First off, unfortunantly most of us are very busy, and probably won't write a full script for you (not without a price anyway!). So for now I'm going to direct you to some very good free PHP tutorials that I used when I was learning too.

Of course, once you started experimenting with PHP and mySQL you should come back and ask any questions you like regarding any problems you might have!

Tutorials:
For a COMPLETE guide to PHP
For a guide to PHP and mySQL only

Hope these help you out, it should be pretty easy to create what you want though!

jacannon2, leavethisplace is right...

this is supposed to be a support forum, and by that i mean if you were having problems with a piece of code you could come and ask where you're doing wrong, or if you were to start something and didn't know how you would come and receive dirtections.

so far i can only tell you to try another forum on this board and see if someone would do the whole script for you (free or not free) like "Coding all the rest" where other people seem to have made offers in that direction.

hope this all does not disspoint you, but try to understand the others you are asking for help. they're only human too

good luck
