Problems with fopen() and php.ini

Hello:

I'm an absolute beginner in PHP and I have encountered a couple of problems I don't know how to solve.

The first one is that I cannot access my php.ini document to edit it. I'm using PHP 5, Apache on Mac OS 10.3. I can find the php.ini file when using the shell but I get a message saying that I don't have enough privileges to modify the document. I'm the administrator in my computer, does this changes anything?.

The second problem is that I don't seem to be able to open a document for reading and writing as in the example attached. I only seem to be able to use "r" for reading the document but not any other mode....my script finishes all the time in the die() function. This only happens on my Mac but not on a PC...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks heaps.

Maria

The answer to your first question is that even though you can't access the php.ini (as it should be, at least in a hosted environment), you may well be able to accomplish what you need using ini_set() - take a look at the options and give it a try.

For your second problem, I'll need to review the attached code. I will when I get a chance, and let you know what I think.

Many thanks for your help CYH. I found out what the problem was with the reading and writing a document and it had to do with the permissions of my Home directory. So this is sorted.
