I am installing invision power board. I was told I would nead the new verion os Mysql and PHP. I downloaded both of them from there websites.

I am not sure I understand what Mqsql is. Like what does it do and how does it work?

mysql is the storage in "php and mysql" and php is the brain

mysql is the database in which all the info (in your case all the user info, posts, private messages) are stored

i honestly suggest you visit they support forum since they know their stuff better than anyone else
