it's true, but then again, why should anyone bother? The rewards are pretty minimal, and people just **** all over most open source projects anyway - rewriting open software and then claiming it as their own. To be honest, i'd probably never write an open source piece of software, just because there are too many pirate on the internet. It's logical that things like PHPBB were going to come out, because no one is going to pay for a BB (unless you're VBulletin in which case u charge a stupid amount) mainly because it is so simple to make.
But things like powerful article managers are different stories, because it is likely that large website will use article managers that are made by other people - and thus the branding has to be taken off, as well as making into FULLY customisable with templates etc etc. So people just have to pay.
