I can not display .doc files correctly, i didn't get it why but i changes whole text and dislpays as meanless shapes and figures.. I have a part to upload file and controlled by ereg functions, i must display .doc s and .xls s correctly. May u help please. (taking fire need assistance )

How are you displaying them at the moment? To be honest word and excel documents aren't really built for the web. You can convert them into HTML from within the application but even that resuults in some odd characters and a bloated HTML file full of unnecessary data.

.doc and .xls files are are not normal files that you can parse. They are binary files stored in Micro$ofts own special way.

There are .xls readers out there written for php (try searching) that you could use to read out the contents of the spreadsheet and display however you want.
There's probably one for .docs, but I'm not sure.

Just to let you know, in the next version of Microsoft Office, all file formats are going to be based on XML. That'll make things much easier...

i'm probably gonna leave this company till that point so it wont be a problem for me ...

another question i have, what if i want to open that .doc or xls doc using its own program, like downloading the file but without downloadin, with a link, can i open a doc or xls document from servers database in clients screen with the proper program? i'm tring to find a easier way

If you link to .doc or .xls files, Internet explorer ought to open them itself, and the Word/Excel toolbars will appear in IE. This still involves a copy of the file being downloaded, but you don't have to run word/excel to view the file. For other browsers and OSes it will be necessary to download the files and open separately in Office / OpenOffice.
