PHP is a server side script and will only work when run from a website, and HTML is a client-side language which runs from your computer.

The only way you can view PHP files is by having a server which enables PHP use, or you could install your own Apache server and install PHP onto it on your own computer - this would work to.

PHP is server side because it manipulate's things such as files, dynamically created pages, databases etc etc and so a "preview" would be hugely restricted!

i am trying to make a site with a blog (not using a blog site such as blogger) and i have downloaded wordpress and plog and they use php and i am trying to learn how to use php. the reason i was going to use one of those is because i want there to be a "comments" button and i wouldnt know how to do that in html easily. does anyone have any other ideas what i could do without using php?

Leave this place is right, I use Dream Weaver, which has a display/preview section at the bottom, and it has little use in PHP as it just displays either alot of nonsense or gives me a small image, like a button, with PHP inside it. Not helpful at all!
