Hi,

What would anyone say if I asked why I should learn PHP, and what are the most useful uses fro PHP. A lot of people say it saves hours of maintenece time, but I'm not exactly sure what can be done with PHP.

Can it automate tasks? Can it change multiple items at once?

Someone please explain.

If your going to be doing anything serious on the web then you should learn some server side scripting language like PHP, ASP.NET or Java.

PHP can perform a wide variety of tasks, or to say you can perform a wide variety of tasks with PHP. Check out the PHP Manual for a better idea of what PHP can do.

Yes!. PHP is the way to go, if you want a good secure site, use php.

There is no limit to what PHP can do for you. There is always new features and ideas coming out for it every day. Not only can you use PHP as a web service you can create scripts to run on your server and now PHP also can be used to create Windows and maybe *nix forms/applications.

Being PHP open source there is a great network of people that can help you solve problems and help you out with scripts. PHP is also the #1 gowing Language right now.

During the creation of PHP they keep in mind the idea of the 2 types of users beginners and advanced users. A begining user can come in a create some great code with easy and simplicity. A more advanced user can aslo come in a create more advanced programs and apps with easy as well.

All in all PHP is by far one of the best lang. that I have had the experiance of using and playing with. I don't have all the restiction that come with many lang. and when I need help I'm sure to find someone willing to help me out pretty fast and easy.

I recently moved over my dads site to php, and the sole reason at first was to be able to update the main links across the site from one file. This has also layed the foundation for something even better, so id say to start off on the wright foot.

You will find tons of free scripts for almost any function you need for your website (forums, mailing lists, blogs, articles, news, etc etc)

Yes, please learn PHP. Whatever you do, don't rely on strangers from internet forums to get your script working. With the same amount of effort you can study the language and do it yourself.

I think people are a lot more inclined to help you learn a programming language as opposed to just "here, get this to work for me."
